With the increasing digitalisation of the automotive industry, the ability to read Electronic Control Unit (ECU) data remotely via an installed CC-Link device is a major operational advantage. This feature allows workshops to access real-time error codes from customer vehicles, offering a range of benefits that improve service speed, workshop efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Below are the key advantages of utilising remote diagnostics, along with a guide on how to manage this data within ConnectedWorkshop.
Improved Diagnostics and Efficiency
Remote access to fault codes allows you to quickly evaluate vehicle health without requiring the car to be physically present in the bay. This allows your team to:
Identify Problems Faster: By accessing error codes in real time, you can immediately identify technical issues and assess their severity.
Prepare for Repairs in Advance: Knowing the precise fault codes beforehand allows you to order parts and prepare the necessary workshop tools before the vehicle arrives, significantly reducing downtime.
Optimise Workshop Workloads: With a clear overview of which vehicles have the most critical defects, you can prioritise floor space and technician assignments more effectively, ensuring urgent safety issues are addressed first.
Enhanced Customer Service
By remotely monitoring the condition of your customers' vehicles, you can transition from a reactive repair model to a proactive customer care strategy:
Deliver Early Warnings: Inform customers of developing mechanical or electrical issues before they escalate into major breakdowns or more expensive repairs.
Simplify Maintenance Scheduling: Send timely reminders to customers about routine servicing based on automated mileage and fault readings, protecting the vehicle’s performance and lifespan.
Build Long-Term Trust: Showing customers precise, transparent diagnostics and explaining the exact repairs required builds immense confidence and loyalty.
Targeted Marketing for Specific Maintenance Areas
Aggregated error code data serves as a warm-lead pipeline, allowing you to identify widespread mechanical trends across your database and focus your marketing outreach:
Particulate Filter Maintenance: If a high volume of vehicles report particulate filter faults, you can run targeted campaigns highlighting the importance of professional filter cleaning.
Air Conditioning Servicing: Error codes indicating climate control issues can be used to trigger specific seasonal promotions, such as air conditioning check-ups and system refreshes.
Component-Specific Campaigns: Use diagnostic trends to isolate other common battery, braking, or ignition system failures, allowing you to build highly relevant, high-conversion service offers.
How It Works in ConnectedWorkshop
To access this data, navigate to Leads > Error Codes in the left-hand sidebar:
The Diagnostics page displays a comprehensive overview of all faults detected by your active CC-Link devices. To help you manage your workflow, the system provides a qualified description of what each error code means, which ECU it originated from, and how often it has been recorded.
Filtering and Sorting the Data
To help you find specific vehicles or trends quickly, you can filter and sort the dashboard using the following controls:
Severity Categorisation: Error codes are automatically grouped into three categories: Permanent, Sporadic, and Potential (please refer to our dedicated Severity Guide for detailed definitions).
System Filters: Sort your view by specific ECU types or filter by open and closed issues.
Time Range Selector: View the latest telemetry readings by adjusting the period to show data from the last 24 hours, 48 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or All error codes.
